Many people in our community do not have access to adequate health care despite the significant government spending on health. With life expectancy at 53/56 years for male and female, the Nigerian health care is clearly below par. Health facilities (health centers, personnel, and medical equipment) are inadequate in the Country, particularly in rural areas. Although various reforms have been proposed by the Nigerian Government to address the wide-ranging issues in the health care system, but many are yet to be implemented at the state and local government levels.
Consequently, with gross unemployment in the country, many do not have access to health services while some have to make a choice between food/shelter and health care. As a result, many fail to focus attention on ailments or seek treatment until diseases have progressed to advanced stages. For these reasons and many more, NAZAS as a charity organization arranges health missions to provide free medical screening and health services to the needy in collaboration with the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN). Thousands of the needy have benefitted from this Health initiative.
